How to make Falafel?

When we host or are hosted, and we feel like treating our family and friends, we make one of our favorite dishes: Falafel. (To be precise, Saar does the cooking and I’m the sous-chef and in charge of order and cleanliness 😀).

When I say “Falafel”, I mean everything that goes with it: fresh pita bread, hummus and tahini, finely chopped vegetable salad, pickles, and fries – all homemade.

So that you can enjoy it too, I’m sharing our winning recipe for these delicious and addictive Falafel balls.

Our recipe is vegan, gluten-free, and absolutely delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 500gr chickpeas (soaked for 12 hours in water)
  • Bundle of Parsley
  • Bundle of Coriander
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cummin
  • 1 small onion
  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 1 spoon sweet Paprica
  • 2 tbsp Baking soda
  • 1 hot chili pepper
  • 2 spoons of sesame

Grind all of the ingredients in a meat grinder, once you done that, do it again… you have to grind it twice.
(If you don’t have a meat grinder you may use a food processor, just be careful not to make it a paste)

I usually let it stable in the refrigerator for few hours before cooking.
Heat oil in a deep pot, create Falafel balls using spoons / your hands / Falafel tool (if you have one).
Carefully, put the Falafel balls in the hot oil, let them fry, roll them over from time to time.
When they turn brown, they are ready.

Serve the Falafel with Pita bread, French fries , Tahini sauce and Humus.

Oh, almost forgot, I made a short video showing the entire Falafel making process…
